Changing the processor on a LGA775 motherboard

Now, with that out of the way, I'd like to explain a few things about the LGA775 motherboard and compliant processors. Unlike older socket types ( Socket 478 for example ), the LGA 775 motherboard introduced protruding pins instead of the multiple socket holes found in the past ( see fig. 1 ). There are 775 pins, hence the name. As expected, the compatible processors don’t have multiple pins on them like older processors, instead having just connectors arranged in the same pattern as the pins on the motherboard ( fig. 2 ).
